Community Student Accommodation Process
|
Welcome to parents/ guardians of students in our community.
This is your site to learn more about the Student Accommodation Review Process and Action Plan for Maurice Cody Public School and how it may involve other locals school(s) in our community. This is also a forum for you to share your views, comments and questions.
This process is underway to respond to the over-capacity challenge we have in our school community. Although the focus of this challenge is space requirements at Maurice Cody PS, the solution may impact or involve the Hodgson, Davisville and Eglinton communities, that's why we all need to have this discussion together to ensure that we have a ground-up approach.
More information will be posted on this site as we move forward. I am advocating for this process to move quickly, while ensuring that we have all information before us and with parents and administrators directly involved in the decision-making process. Crowded school to get addition | Monday, 06 July 2009 18:16 | | By Kris Scheuer, Town Crier July 2, 2009
Maurice Cody students will soon have more space at their overcrowded public school.
A $500,000 pre-fabricated addition will be attached to the Leaside-area elementary school by September 2010.
St. Paul’s school trustee Josh Matlow is happy with the option. | | Read more... |

Dear St. Paul's parents and residents,
I deeply appreciate the hard work and long hours our Accommodation Review Committee (ARC) members put into a very thoughtful, creative and difficult process...to determine what to recommend to the TDSB regarding how to best accommodate the growing enrollment demand in our community. Thank you to the parent representatives from Hodgson, Spectrum, Eglinton, Davisville, and Maurice Cody, our student representatives, TDSB planning, facilities, and programs Staff, our superintendent, Michael Smith, our facilitator, Usha Finucane, and our community representative, Shelley Laskin.
I also very much appreciate the active engagement of so many members of our community in this process. It's inspiring to see how much we care about our schools and effectively advocate for our vibrant communities, here in St. Paul's.
There will be a final report is ready to share with you by April 9th, 2010.
For your information, here are the agreed-upon recommendations (in principle) from our last ARC meeting.
1. Davisville Jr PS, Maurice Cody Jr PS, Hodgson Sr PS and Eglinton Jr PS will remain open as community schools. 2. The current attendance area for each school within the ARC will be maintained. 3. Programs currently in the group of ARC schools will be retained and consideration will be given to relocating the Extended French Gr 7-8 program from Hodgson to Davisville in order to create additional capacity at Hodgson. 4. A Middle School model will be maintained within the ARC. 5. Spectrum Alternative School will remain in a school within the ARC and will be considered for relocation to Davisville in order to create some additional capacity at Eglinton. 6. Necessary capacity will be added to school facilities to meet the projected enrolments; and appropriate educational and program supports will be in place, as needed at all the schools in the ARC. 7. There will be recognition of the importance of achieving appropriate balance in schools offering both French and English programs. Additional Information will be included in the report that reflects the importance of the following areas: a) Consideration be given to including additional Special Education programs in the ARC schools (including the Deaf and Hard of Hearing) to support local community needs. b) The use of School space for the Community, including Childcare and Parenting Centres, be investigated. c) Reasonable capital investment be provided to ensure enhanced programs for all students. d) Transition plans that support implementation of the ARC recommendations be designed and implemented. f) Staff will meet with parents and school staff to initiate a process to support the programs at Davisville and Eglinton to be initiated in September 2010. g) The ARC membership reinforced that each of the ARC schools have a strong sense of community which they wish to see maintained. -I can also confirm, for the attention of Oriole Park parents, that your school's attendance area boundaries will not be affected by these recommendations. The final recommendations will be considered by trustees on June 23rd, 2010. Meanwhile, there will be a public comment period and I will post information about this opportunity at www.joshmatlow.ca as soon as I recieve the details about that important process from senior staff. There will be a public meeting at North Toronto Collegiate Institute on Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 at 7pm. I do encourage you to attend if you have questions or need further information.
Sincerely,
Josh Matlow Trustee for St. Paul's Toronto District School Board

This group is a forum to ensure parents in the Maurice Cody, Hodgson, Davisville and Eglinton school communities are involved in the process to meet the area's school capacity challenge. All information regarding this process will be posted (or by link) on this site. This is one avenue, among many more being created, to engage parents meaningfully into this community/ school board process.
