Toronto - Some Toronto schools got a bit of good news, Wednesday.
That's because trustees at the Toronto District School Board voted to re-open four more school pools.
They include pools at:
- Jarvis Collegiate Institute
- Downsview Secondary School
- Fern Avenue Junior and Senior Public School
- Queen Alexandra Senior Public School
Trustee Josh Matlow told 680News, the board is still trying to save nine other pools.
"[...] We need to find new permit revenue to cover the annual operating cost to keep them open. TDSB is looking for both community and corporate partners to find the revenue to keep these pools open."

If swine flu comes back to school with students on Tuesday, parents won't know it.
The looming threat of the H1N1 virus, crumbling schools and declining enrolment are just three of the issues Toronto school officials will have to tackle as another school year starts up.

By JOANNA LAVOIE, Toronto Community News
He calls it both a controversial but absolutely necessary step.
St. Paul's trustee Josh Matlow is referring to a motion he presented at last Wednesday's (Aug. 26) Toronto District School Board (TDSB) meeting regarding creation of at least 20 Accommodation Review Committees (ARCs) that would look at the possible closure and consolidation of under used schools.

The Toronto District School Board has decided to form accommodation review committees to consider which schools might be closed as student enrolment numbers continue to drop.
On Wednesday evening, at its monthly board meeting, the board asked for a report by October pinpointing areas where the committees could be of use in the next few years.
Trustee Josh Matlow says this is just the first step, but a necessary one.

Toronto District School Board trustees have given the new education director two months to come up with the number of schools to be considered for closing and the areas they will be in.
"I'm happy we have accepted that we have to responsibly manage our assets," said trustee Josh Matlow, who tabled the motion. "I think the board showed courage."

4,000 fewer children enrolling in TDSB schools every year
CBC News
Members of the Toronto District School Board are set to discuss the drop in student population and the effect it is having on schools.
"It's a last-minute addition to the agenda," said trustee Josh Matlow, who knows it is a hot-button issue for parents.
"No politician wants a school in their community to close because they're scared of losing votes," he said.

This week's Toronto District School Board (TDSB) meeting may prove to be the first step towards the closure a number of under-enrolled public schools across the city.
On Wednesday Aug. 26, trustees will be presented with a motion to determine whether it is time to review dozens of under-enrolled schools for possible closure or "consolidation," as the motion's co-author, Trustee Josh Matlow, prefers to call it.
"I think it's the single most important thing we can do as a school board to finally get our budget working for us," said Matlow.
