That's because trustees at the Toronto District School Board voted to re-open four more school pools.
They include pools at:
- Jarvis Collegiate Institute
- Downsview Secondary School
- Fern Avenue Junior and Senior Public School
- Queen Alexandra Senior Public School
Trustee Josh Matlow told 680News, the board is still trying to save nine other pools.
"[...] We need to find new permit revenue to cover the annual operating cost to keep them open. TDSB is looking for both community and corporate partners to find the revenue to keep these pools open."
Matlow added about 40 pools were threatened with closure and of those the board has saved 24. Seven of them, however, will remain closed indefinitely.
Even though he said "certainly we can celebrate that we've saved as many as we have [...] we've got a lot of work to do [...].
He explained many of the pools that might be closed are in lower income areas, where residents do not have some of the resources many of the other communities have.
The four pools could be re-open by January 2010.
