Dear Resident,

I hope this letter finds you and your family well during these very challenging times. I am reaching out to invite you to a public consultation meeting that my office is organizing to discuss the development proposal at 1637-1645 Bathurst Street.

This development review process was started when City Planning presented the preliminary report in May 2018 and held a public consultation a few months later in June 2018. An updated proposal was submitted last month and I want to make sure we circle back with the community on the final proposal by the developer before the report comes back to Community Council later this fall. In order to ensure that the final design respects the needs and wishes of community, I feel that it is crucial to hold this meeting as I was not representing this area back in 2018 when the original public consultation took place.

City Planning staff have advised me that the issues raised at the time of the 2018 consultation have largely been addressed by the new proposal. These changes include lowering the height of the building, the removal of the Bathurst-facing retaining wall and providing better streetscape, additional landscaping, improved amenity spaces for future residents, better transition to the Richview homes on the east side of the development, among other changes. If you are interested in reviewing the new plans or any associated studies in detail before the meeting, you can do so via the City’s Application Information Centre at this link.

I want you to have an opportunity to review this new proposal and provide your feedback directly to the applicant, while ensuring that City staff are available to speak about any outstanding questions or concerns. We have invited staff from Community Planning, Urban Design, Housing Policy, and Transportation Services to attend the meeting. Both City Planning and the applicant will give brief presentations and the majority of the meeting will be left for a community discussion and Q&A. If you have any feedback or questions in the meantime, feel welcome to reach out to my office or the planner on file, Carla Tsang (

In order to make sure that everyone has access to the information and discussion from the meeting, we will be recording the presentation and panel discussion which I will post on my website at An important note for anyone who is attending and is concerned about privacy, the format will not show any of the attendees, only your voice will be recorded if you wish to ask a question or make a comment. If you are not comfortable with participating in this format, you are welcome to observe the meeting and contact my office directly.
