The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo
Governor of New York State
NYS State Capitol Building
Albany, New York 12224
Dear Governor Cuomo,
The City of Toronto is Canada’s largest city and a global center for finance, culture and tourism. It is also the capital city of Ontario which, as you know, borders your great state.
Currently along the New York State Thruway, there are signs on the I-87 indicating the distance northward from New York City to Montreal, Quebec. However, driving west from Albany on the I-90, the signs suggest that Buffalo is literally the end of the road and don’t provide drivers with information about how many miles they’d expect to drive to Niagara Falls and Toronto- both important destinations and frequently visited by millions of New Yorkers.
Posting signage will let travellers know how far they are from Toronto, which is only 103 miles from Buffalo. This could be very useful to both Canadian tourists returning home from New York and American tourists on their way to Toronto.
Please let me know if there are any steps that can be taken to have signage posted along the Thruway, specifically indicating how many miles travellers are from Toronto and the Niagara Region.
I very much appreciate your attention to this matter. If you have any questions or comments, I can be reached at 416-392-7906 or councillor_matlow@toronto.ca.
Sincerely,
Councillor Josh Matlow
Ward 22- St.Paul’s
