Residents invited to naming ceremony
for Sharon, Lois & Bram Playground at June Rowlands (Davisville) Park
City Hall – Councillor Josh Matlow (Ward 22) invites Torontonians to attend the naming ceremony for the Sharon, Lois & Bram Playground at June Rowlands (Davisville) Park at Davisville and Mt. Pleasant. The ceremony will run from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 10th and will include a performance from the famous children’s music trio.
“Like many Torontonians, I grew up listening to Sharon, Lois and Bram and I invite parents from across the city to introduce their kids to these wonderful entertainers,” said Matlow. “Naming a children’s playground after the group is a fitting way to recognize their lifelong work as artists and humanitarians.”
The celebrated, Toronto-based children’s music and entertainment trio have been performing quality children’s music and entertainment for over thirty-five years and continue to be cherished and loved by many generations of children around the world.
Their contributions are not only cultural; Sharon, Lois & Bram have been avid supporters of UNICEF since 1988 and were appointed National Ambassadors by UNICEF Canada in 1989. They used their television appearances to support the annual trick-or-treat penny drive campaign and received the Order of Canada in 2002 for their commitment to improving the lives of children around the globe. Sharon Hampson, Bram Morrison and Lois Lilienstein are all local residents of midtown Toronto.
Toronto & East York Community Council passed a motion on January 15th, 2014 to name the playground after the performers.
