With the municipal budget being the big discussion item, in this week’s special edition of The City Councillor Josh Matlow speaks in studio with Chair of Toronto’s budget committee, Mike Del Grande. In recognition of the upcoming public discussions to be taking place, the Councillors open the phone lines and field your questions regarding the 2012 budget. Some of the topics discussed include the $4 shortfall in Community Partnership and Investment Program Grants, possible pool closures at TDSB schools, and what’s to come for the TTC. TDSB Chair Chris Bolton phones in to discuss the possible loss of pools, as well as Councillor Doug Ford’s push to have UFC programs in schools to promote an anti-bullying and anti-gangs message. Dave Harvey of Parks People phones in to discuss parks funding, Stanley Park and pool closures, and his thoughts on the budget.
In hour 2 of this week’s special Budget edition of the city, Councillors Matlow and Del Grande shift to a town hall format. Questions and discussions are on buyouts and management levels in city staff, police funding, property tax hikes, the homeless in Toronto, and overstaffing issues. Councillor Matlow also asks Councillor Del Grande what influences the decisions he makes as the budget Chair.
