In hour 1 of ‘The City’ this week, Councillor Josh Matlow is joined in studio by Councillors Joe Mihevc and Joe Parker. As heard first on Newstalk 1010 this morning, the city has reached a tentative deal with CUPE local 416 in the labour negotiations for the city’s outside workers, and the Councillors spend the first hour discussing the process leading up to the agreement, and the aftermath. They also speak with leader of the city’s library workers union, Maureen O’Reilly, to discuss the library budget battle.
In hour 2, Councillors Matlow, Parker, and Mihevc start by speaking with Deputy Mayor Councillor Doug Holiday about the success of the labour negotiations. Former chief of staff for Mayor Rob Ford, Nick Kouvalis joins in both to discuss the labour situation in the city, as well as the shift in focus now to the transit situation, and the hopes that plans will begin to be implemented. To close out the hour, Ombudsman Fiona Crean weighs in on the need for a Public Service Act in Toronto, followed by a quick rapid fire question and response exchange.
