The Badminton and Racquet Club of Toronto has been a community favourite in the St. Clair Avenue West and Yonge Street area since 1924. Tragically, the building caught fire on Tuesday. The sports club – which originally occupied the space of a former Toronto Transit Commission building – had recently re-opened after major renovations last year.
Local city councillor, Josh Matlow, says the historical significance of the building “cannot be understated. It was very unique in that when you enter the building, it’s like walking back in time.”
