Mayor John Tory recently addressed concerns over the extreme heat in many apartment buildings stating that he is open to reassessing the bylaw which requires that landlords keep their buildings at a minimum of 21 degrees after September 15th.
Many landlords have turned on the heating in their buildings in an attempt to meet this bylaw however, combined with the recent heat wave, this has left residents, especially seniors, living in intolerable conditions.
The management of one residential building in Councillor Matlow’s ward have said that they will open a ‘cooling room’ for their residents.
