The TTC’s former chair says Mayor Ford’s plan to run a subway line into Scarborough isn’t realistic.
On Newstalk 1010s The City with councillor Josh Matlow, Adam Giambrone dismissed the plan as too expensive.
Giambrone doesn’t see provincial or federal governments chipping in $4.5 billion, as they stare down deficit reduction plans.
Mayor Rob Ford has said he expects to work with the private sector to make the project happen.
But Giambrone isn’t aware of any subway system in the world paid for with private dollars.
The former TTC boss calls building more light rapid transit instead of subways “common sense”.
Scarborough East councillor Paul Ainslie worries about the road congestion expanded LRT would cause.
Councillor for Toronto-Danforth Paula Fletcher says she can’t support the subway plan, because it wouldn’t get riders to the Scarborough Pan-Am Games site.
