TTC Budget Balanced on the Backs of Vulnerable Students
Councillors join Student Unions to fight against unfair fare increases

Toronto – Councillors Josh Matlow (Ward 12 – Toronto St. Paul’s) and Mike Layton (Ward 11 – University Rosedale) will be joined by Student Union leaders from Toronto’s post-secondary institutions to fight against unfair monthly transit pass increases ahead of the first 2020 Budget Committee meeting.

At $122.45, a student monthly pass in Toronto is already too expensive for young people struggling with high rents, tuition, and declining OSAP. The 2020 budget raises the price of a monthly transit pass for students by $5.70 – an above-inflation increase higher than any other fare category.

What: Student Monthly Transit Pass Fare Increase Press Conference
