Sheldon Levy, President and Vice Chancellor
Ryerson University, JOR-1307
350 Victoria St
Toronto ON M5B 2K3
Dear Mr. Levy,
I have been contacted by residents in my community, including students and alumni of your institution, who are very concerned about the present state of repair of the Sam the Record Man sign. This beloved icon of our City’s past has been stored out of sight for years and rumours are circulating that the sign has been damaged beyond repair or even destroyed.
I would like to reassure residents that Ryerson University has gone to lengths to protect and preserve the sign that are commensurate with its civic importance. I am writing to request an opportunity to visit the sign in storage so that I can verify its integrity and put these rumours to rest.
Please contact my office at your soonest convenience to organize this visit.
Sincerely,
Josh Matlow
Toronto City Councillor
Ward 22 – St. Paul’s
