Mabel’s Fables Bookstore is a cultural beacon in Toronto, proudly selling Canadian and international books for over 31 years. Known for its wonderful curated selection, Mabel’s booksellers help build big readers and promote family literacy. Knowledgeable staff help match the book to the reader and are known for creating gift baskets tailored to a reader’s age and interests. Mabel’s Fables book subscriptions send a parcel to a child once a month, containing a book selected just for that child.

As a cultural hub, Mabel’s hosts book launches, story times, and many classes including Rainbow Songs, Multicultural Kids, and George Brown College classes for adult writers of children’s books.

Mabel’s Fables is an official book provider to various school boards, attends many events for educators, and brings many authors to schools for presentations.

Every December, The Mabel’s Fables Book Angel program sends new books to underprivileged children in Toronto and in 2019 started the Kids Read North program, an initiative to send new books to students in Ontario’s First Nations communities. Both programs are supported by Mabel’s Fables customers.

The bookstore is also home to a 24/7 donation box for the Book Bank, an organization in Cabbagetown run by retired librarians, that hosts visiting schoolchildren and gives them free books to keep.

In the tradition of bookstores of yore, Mabel’s Fables has a resident feline, named Mabel III. Within the store is a very special room on the second floor, with walls autographed and illustrated by book creators from Canada and around the world.

The upper floor of Mabel’s is used to host readings open to the community. Over the years, 167 visiting Canadian and international authors and illustrators have signed this wall
