Update on 733 Mount Pleasant Road Development Proposal

This week I attended the community meeting regarding the development proposal for 733 Mount Pleasant. I was there to support planning staff and our Davisville neighbourhood, as this is a development that is recommended as a midrise by City planners but has been changed by the Ford government to allow for a tall tower. Although this is not in my ward any longer, this is part of the community I represented for a decade and one that is near to my heart.

The proposed tower at 733 Mount Pleasant is bad planning. The TDSB has expressed concerns about the impact it would have on school capacity in the midtown area and the shadow it would cast over Eglinton PS’ playground during morning recess. This has to be taken seriously.

Its precedent for Mount Pleasant concerns me greatly. It’s wrong. No transition towards planned midrise to the south, no transition to Taunton, Falcon and the adjacent neighborhood and goes against City Planning’s recommendations in Midtown in Focus.

I will continue to engage City Planning and Councillor Robinson’s office on this development, along with community representatives. This goes for any ward boundary development proposals, which we are getting on Mount Pleasant and Broadway Avenue.

You can review City Planning’s preliminary report at this link and reach out to the City Planner responsible for this file with any questions or comments – Jason Brander at Jason.Brander@toronto.ca.
