Play4All Merton Street Project

Amidst all of the chaos, you can make a difference – help us build a playground!

Remember at school when the bell would ring for recess and everyone jumped up to run and play? Or when your friend would call and ask if you wanted to go for a walk to the playground?

You’d meet up with your friends and play 4-square, or simply race around the jungle gym pretending you were King or Queen of the castle. For those few hours, everything was pure bliss…

When we played as kids there was much more happening than what simply met the eye.

Play tested our limits and helped us to strengthen our cognitive, physical and emotional abilities. The best part about this process? It promoted development outside of the classroom, beyond books and exams. Simply put, playgrounds propelled us to play, use our imaginations, and reach our full potential.

Play4All.MertonProject is a grassroots project initiated by the residents of the Hospital Workers Housing Coop (HWHC) and is fundraising to build a playground for the HWHC community.

HWHC is a not-for-profit organization that provides subsidized housing to CUPE healthcare workers and to over 200 persons from refugee, minority, and low-income households. In communities like ours, many families face major barriers to play. In fact, almost 60% of minorities and low-income households face some type of barrier to play. Whether it’s financial and you can’t afford to take your family to the park, or it’s residential and you just don’t feel it’s safe for your kids to play in a dangerous neighbourhood, we understand. Play4All.MertonProject aims to reduce barriers to physical activity experienced by children, youth, and families of HWHC. Everyone deserves the chance to go outside, play and reach their full developmental potential!
