Councillor Josh Matlow

Bradgate Arms Retirement Residence

As many of you know, COVID-19 has been particularly virulent with elders in our community, especially in long-term care and retirement homes where it has been running rampant.

As Toronto’s Seniors Advocate, I’m very concerned about, and deeply saddened by, the devastating impact this virus is having on our senior population.

For those who are in self-isolation, I want you to know that we care about you and you are not alone. For those who are unwell because of the virus, I wish you our support, strength and a full recovery. And for those families and friends that have lost a loved one from COVID-19, my deepest and most sincere condolences to you.

Our community appreciates the heroic and caring personal support workers, nurses, doctors, health care workers, management teams, cleaners, kitchen staff, coordinators and everyone who works tirelessly to support our loved ones. No words can adequately express our heartfelt gratitude and support.

Many of you have asked how you can offer your support from a physical distance.

Please leave a message of encouragement, love and gratitude for the Bradgate Arms community in the comment section below.

Most importantly, if we all do our part, spend time at home and slow the spread of the virus, more of our parents, grandparents, family members, friends and neighbours can get the care they need to survive this.

I just couldn’t depart your web site before suggesting that I extremely loved the standard information a person supply in your visitors? Is gonna be back incessantly to inspect new posts.

    To the staff,

It is when the tests come that we discover who we are and what we are made of. The important thing is to try and always keep trying. I see the care-givers doing this and it warms my heart. It lifts my spirits to know that there are people out there putting their lives on the line for others. All strength to you and your families.

    Thank you for your service.

    With respect,
    Teresa

My heart goes out to everyone at Bradgate Arms – the residents, caregivers, staff and families. My mother spent 2 years of her life in a LTC home in St. Catharines, and I saw first-hand all the hard work, care and compassion that goes into caring for our elderly. Thank you for everything you do!

Please know that many of us in the Toronto community are doing all we can to stay in isolation and stop the spread of this virus. Although both my parents are now gone, I “get it” – I value all of your lives, so I am happy to sacrifice a few freedoms to make sure we all come through this safely.

Sending much love and support, Elizabeth

    A little poem;
“It’s all I have to bring to-day” By Emily Dickinson

    It’s all I have to bring to-day,
    This, and my heart beside,
This, and my heart, and all the fields,
    And all the meadows wide.
Be sure you count, should I forget, —
Someone the sum could tell, —
This, and my heart, and all the bees
    Which in the clover dwell.

My mother is a resident at the Bradgate and tested positive. I want all the staff to know how much our family appreciates their efforts to help us with her care. Understandably most attention has been directed towards LTC homes. Private retirement homes, which we pay for, take some strain off government-funded seniors homes and deserve government assistance during this crisis. Your staff is risking their own health to keep our loved ones safe and we are immensely appreciative.

A huge thank you to all the front line staff at The Bradgate Arms. We appreciate the personal sacrifices you are making every day to keep our beloved seniors safe! You are heroes! Xxx

All fingers and toes are tightly crossed hoping that you can corral the initial outbreak and stop it in its tracks…….great people there. Here’s hoping healthcare workers will be seen in a different light and suitably appreciated for their dedication in our post-Covid world. Hang in there…
