As many of you know, COVID-19 has been particularly virulent with elders in our community, especially in long-term care and retirement homes where it has been running rampant.
As Toronto’s Seniors Advocate, I’m very concerned about, and deeply saddened by, the devastating impact this virus is having on our senior population.
For those who are in self-isolation, I want you to know that we care about you and you are not alone. For those who are unwell because of the virus, I wish you our support, strength and a full recovery. And for those families and friends that have lost a loved one from COVID-19, my deepest and most sincere condolences to you.
Our community appreciates the heroic and caring personal support workers, nurses, doctors, health care workers, management teams, cleaners, kitchen staff, coordinators and everyone who works tirelessly to support our loved ones. No words can adequately express our heartfelt gratitude and support.
Many of you have asked how you can offer your support from a physical distance.
Please leave a message of encouragement, love and gratitude for the St. Hilda’s community in the comment section below.
Most importantly, if we all do our part, spend time at home and slow the spread of the virus, more of our parents, grandparents, family members, friends and neighbours can get the care they need to survive this.

Thank you for your kindness and support for the people who need us now more than ever.
A fascinating discussion is worth comment. There’s no doubt that that you ought to write more about this issue, it may not be a taboo subject but usually people do not discuss these topics. To the next! All the best!!
Next time I read a blog, Hopefully it doesn’t fail me just as much as this one. I mean, Yes, it was my choice to read, however I genuinely thought you would probably have something helpful to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you can fix if you were not too busy looking for attention.
Thank you all who work tirelessly to be there for the residents, who may not be able to receive visits from loved ones during these strange times. You make a difference in the lives of many, without even knowing it. You touch those who most need love and understanding. You are heros to many.
And to the residents, my heart goes out to all of you. For the first time in 6 months, I was finally able to see my own mother in a nursing home and it made my year. Know that you are loved and you are not alone.
Sending hugs and love to all of you!
Thank you to the frontline staff for your courage in helping get through these trying and uncertain times. Your efforts have made the difference for numerous Canadians and their families and brought immense love, support and reassurance during times when it’s been needed the most. Thank you for everything you are doing!!
Thank you to the residents for your resilience and bravery during this pandemic. Please know you are not alone, and thousands of Canadians from coast to coast are thinking of you every day and eagerly looking forward to the day we get to connect live with you again. Your perseverance is admired and stands for the best of what we are as Canadians! We will get through this. Thank you and Stay Strong!
Sending all my love and support to the personal support workers, nurses, doctors, health care workers, management teams, cleaners, kitchen staff, coordinators and everyone else who works so hard to care for the residents living at St. Hilda’s Senior Care Community. Thank you.
Thank you to you all who continue to work so hard during this strange and difficult time. Please know that there are still so many people who appreciate the work you do and know that it’s hard and want to see change. You’re so important. Thank you!
Good Morning You Beautiful Folks at St Hilda’s!!!
My three children and I have gotten to meet many of you wonderful people through our school organized trips these past two years, and it was such a positive experience and a real pleasure! Some people we met were full of stories and excitement! Some showed us their creative art skills. And everyone, every single person we got to spend some time with, was full of warmth and genuine kindness. These visits have lasted with my children and myself, and we want you to know we are thinking of you and sending you our love and well wishes. We really look forward to the day we can visit you again.
Until then, we want you all to know, you beautiful residents and caring and dedicated staff, we miss you and you are always in our hearts and thoughts.
We love you St Hilda’s Family!!!!
To the wonderful staff at St. Hilda’s — thank you for your kindness. I’ve been thinking about you and the residents since this all started, hoping you are staying healthy and keeping your spirits up.
My heart goes out to everyone at St. Hilda’s- the residents, caregivers, staff and families. My mother spent 2 years of her life in a LTC home in St. Catharines, and I saw first-hand all the hard work, care and compassion that goes into caring for our elderly. Thank you for everything you do!
Please know that many of us in the Toronto community are doing all we can to stay in isolation and stop the spread of this virus. Although both my parents are now gone, I “get it” – I value all of your lives, so I am happy to sacrifice a few freedoms to make sure we all come through this safely.
Sending much love and support, Elizabeth

A little poem;
“It’s all I have to bring to-day” By Emily Dickinson
It’s all I have to bring to-day,
This, and my heart beside,
This, and my heart, and all the fields,
And all the meadows wide.
Be sure you count, should I forget, —
Someone the sum could tell, —
This, and my heart, and all the bees
Which in the clover dwell.
You should know that you are amongst the most important, indispensable people in our society. Never doubt that!
Aa big thank you to the front line staff at St. Hilda’s. I once worked that at the front desk as a temp. and was amazed at how much fun it was to be with the elderly citizerns
who lived there. My best wishes to you all for staying strong at this time.
Sending blessings of healing and peace to all of you all.
A huge thank you to all the front line staff at St Hilda’s . We appreciate the personal sacrifices you are making every day to keep our beloved seniors safe! You are heroes! Xxx
Sending all the love and support to the residents, caregivers, staff, and family at St. Hilda’s.
