Community event at St. Matthew’s United Church – March 10

United Neighbours is a group of people from St. Matthew’s United Church and the St. Clair West neighbourhood who got together in 2015 in response to the crisis of Syrian refugees. The first family they sponsored, the Alaalyans, came in 2016 and they have adapted wonderfully to life in Canada. Mohammed is working as a bricklayer, Sanaa has returned to high school and their five children are thriving in school and nursery school.

Last year, the group started fundraising for a second family of eight, relatives of the Alaalyans. The family is currently in a refugee camp in Lebanon. On Sunday, the group will be hosting a concert at the St Matthew’s United Church to fundraise for their efforts.
